Born October 2, 1946 in Hartford; the son of the late John and Bertha (Patterson) Schaefer. Danny was raised in Riverton and enjoyed attending the Riverton Fair annually. He was very faithful and attended church every Sunday. He loved music and was known as "DJ Dan" by many. Danny also loved traveling with friends and family. He is survived by his siblings, Edwina Futtner, Michael Hayes and Mary McDaniel; six nephews; one niece; and 12 grand nieces and nephews. He also leaves his longtime girlfriend, Alice Marcoux and beloved residents and staff at Birch Street Group Home. In addition to his cherished foster parents, he was predeceased by his birth parents, John Hayes and Marcella (Hickey) Hayes and two brothers, Thomas Hayes and James Hayes. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Our Lady of Hope Parish, formerly Immaculate Conception Church in New Hartford at 10 AM. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Pleasant Valley. Montano-Shea Funeral Home, New Hartford has care of the arrangements.
